Internal medicine specialists have the competence to solve complex diagnostic problems and to monitor severe chronic diseases, often in polypathological conditions, by establishing an adequate therapeutic plan. Internal medicine also provides patients with disease prevention and health promotion services related to preventive medicine.
Laboratory: For the diagnosis and pathology of internal organ diseases at the Pet Stuff Veterinary Hospital we use modern investigation and imaging diagnostic equipment:
- Mindray DP 5500 ultrasound
- Hematology analyzer Idexx 3 DIFF VET AUTOREAD
Hematology deals with the study of blood. Research on the blood began with the discovery of the microscope. Loevenhook (1774) highlights globulerosis in humans, while the English surgeon Hawson later discovered leukocytes. A technical progress was the finding of a method for staining the smears (thin layer of blood spread on the blade) and the room for counting the figurative elements in the blood.
The electron microscope, modern chemistry and the use of radioactive isotopes have improved knowledge on the morphology of figurative elements and hematopoietic organs (morphological hematology) on the properties of blood plasma (serological hematology) and on blood diseases (clinical hematology) in humans and animals.
Hematology includes the study of the etiology, diagnosis, treatment, identification of possible complications and prophylaxis of blood diseases. The laboratory doctor is the one who performs all the tests necessary to study the blood.
Blood diseases affect the production of blood and / or its components, such as blood cells (red blood cells, platelets and leukocytes), hemoglobin, blood proteins (eg. albumin, globulins, TGP, TGO, coagulation factors, immunoglobulins, antibodies, transferrin, ceruloplasmin, etc.), coagulation mechanisms.
Usual hematology tests:
- red blood cell count
- number of leukocytes, divided into: o Granulocytes: Neutrophilic polymorphonuclear cells (PMN or Neutrocytes), Eosinocytes, Bazocytes. o Agranulocytes: Lymphocytes, Monocytes
- platelet count
- hemoglobin value
- hematocrit value
- erythrocyte sedimentation rate
- erythrocyte indices:
- VEM (average erythrocyte volume)
- HEM (medium erythrocyte hemoglobin)
- CHEM (mean erythrocyte concentration)
- coagulation times:
- bleeding time
- coagulation time and a prothrombin time
- partial thromboplastin time
- Idexx VETTEST dry biochemistry analyzer
- Semi-automatic biochemistry analyzer Mindray BA-88A- Idexx Veţ Lab Station
- information management system – Arkray automatic urine analyzer
- HEMOCONTROL analyzer determines the level of hematocrit and hemoglobin in a drop of blood, resulting in 30 seconds
- ACCU-CHECK Active glucose meter, determines the level of glucose in the blood in 25 seconds
- Optical Microscope
- IOR microscope
Idexx Quick Diagnostic Tests:
SNAP proBNP ELISA rapid test, for the semiquantitative determination of the pro BNP cardiac marker in cats. It is used for screening for heart disease in cats. The sensitivity of the test is 98%, the specificity of the test for FeLV, 98%. Serum and plasma samples can be analyzed on anticoagulant. Hemolyzed or lipemic samples will not influence the result. The duration until the result is obtained is 10 minutes.
SNAP Lepto The SNAP Lepto test is a rapid test that uses ELISA technology, for the in vitro diagnosis of Leptospirosis in dogs, by detecting anti-Influenza, Canicola, Pomona and Icterohaemorrhagic antibodies in serum samples. The positive result indicates the presence of antibodies to Grippotyphosa, Canicola, Pomona and Ictherohaemorrhagiae. The results are read in 10 minutes. Storage:
- The kit is stored at a temperature of 2-8 C
- All kit components are balanced at room temperature (18-25C) before use.
SNAP 4DX PLUS. It is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with a general specificity of 98% for the following 4 diseases: 1. Lyme disease – no cross-reactions with the vaccine 2. Canine ehrlichiosis 3. Canine anaplasmosis 4. Dirophilariosis. The test can work serum, plasma or whole blood on the anticoagulant. The duration until the result is 8 minutes.
SNAP COMBO PLUS IVF. The test uses ELISA technology, it is used to determine antibodies specific for Feline Immunodeficiency virus and p27 antigen for Feline Leukemia virus. The specificity is 98.2% for FeLV and 100% for IVF and the sensitivity is 98.6% for FeLV and 93.5% for IVF. Serum, plasma or whole blood samples can be used on the anticoagulant, and the results are obtained in 10 minutes.
SNAP cPL CANINE PANCREATIC LIPASIS It is a test designed to diagnose or eliminate acute canine pancreatitis. It is the only test that quantifies the level of canine-specific pancreatic lipase in just 10 minutes. Jaundice, lipemic or hemolyzed samples can also be performed. The sample that can be used for analysis is serum.
SNAP fPL FELINE PANCREATIC LIPASE This is a test designed to diagnose or eliminate acute feline pancreatitis. It is the only test that quantifies the level of specific feline pancreatic lipase in only 10 minutes. The accuracy of the test is 92% for a normal level of pancreatic lipase and 82% for an elevated level. Jaundice, lipemic or hemolyzed samples can also be performed. The sample used for analysis is serum.
SNAP GIARDIA It is a test that uses ELIȘA technology, intended for testing dogs and cats. The test analyzes for the presence of soluble GIARDIA antigens in the faeces. The sensitivity of the test is 96% and the specificity is 100%. Samples from the feces are used to perform the test. The duration of the test is 8 minutes.
SNAP PARVO It is an antigen test that uses the ELISA technique to establish a quick and correct diagnosis in suspected cases of Parvovirus. There are no cross-reactions with vaccines for this condition. The test reacts with CPV-2a, CPV-2b and CPV-2c. The samples used are from faeces. The test can be stored at room temperature. The duration until the results are obtained is 8 minutes.
SNAP LEISHMANIA It is an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay with a specificity of 99.2% and a sensitivity of 96.3%, for the early diagnosis of Leishmaniasis. Serum, plasma or whole blood samples can be analyzed on anticoagulant. The duration until the result is 6 minutes.
SNAP DIROFILARIA The test uses the ELISA technique to detect dogs with heartworm disease.
